IT Strategy
Biomango’s methodology for aligning IT investments with business
objectives is illustrated below:

The diagram above
illustrates some key concepts:
 | The alignment process
is hierarchical and deals with three types of entities: business units
(subsidiary, branch, plant, department, etc.), processes (at the highest level
of abstraction: planning, sourcing, production, shipping), and applications
(given an IT focus; otherwise, we need to think in terms of resources). |
 | Each layer has a well
defined set of measurements that are linked with each other: KPI (gross
margins, labor costs, etc.) are used at the business unit level, process
metrics (cycle time, throughput, inventory turns, etc.) are used at the
process level, and features (lot genealogy, material control, etc.) are used
at the application level. Upon completion of the alignment process, the
definition of an application feature exists only to support the achievement of
a business objective. |
 | Links represent the
justification process, which relies on the existence of cause and effect
relationships. |
